Resourcing ourselves for change
I’ve recently had a bit of a head cold, which is fairly typical for this time of year and I did what a lot of people do when they’re unwell - made sure I had enough supplies to get me through a few days of feeling rotten.
I follow a similar routine when the winter starts to sets in: making sure that I have everything I need (especially when really bad weather is forecast), which includes stocking up my store cupboard (hot chocolate is a obviously a must), getting the winter woollies (and fluffy socks) down from their storage box at the top of the wardrobe, and making sure there’s a cosy throw over the back of the sofa to keep me warm.
All this got me thinking about how we resource ourselves for change - not just the head-cold type, or the changing of the seasons version - but every kind of change that life throws at us. Given the opportunity, most of us resource ourselves by preparing (in whatever small way we can) for whatever lies ahead, or at least trying to!
I wrote Untangled to help other people who are facing change - whether that’s change they’ve chosen, or change that life has thrown in their path - to make sure they have the resources they need to see them through. Untangled and its accompanying journal are packed full of useful skills, personal stories and tools - many of which take no more than 15 minutes a day to put into practice - to help you live through change.
The Untangled website also features a selection of resources - which can be accessed completely free of charge - including an Emotions Wheel (which you can use to check in on how you’re feeling), a Values List (to help you work out which values are most important to you), a Wheel of Life (to help you identify which areas of your life may need some work) and a Book Group Guide (with suggested topics for group discussion).
Why not take some time to think about a change you’d like to make in your life next year - whether it’s a tiny change, or something really big. I’m not talking about New Year’s resolutions (if you follow any of my social media channels, you’ll probably already know that I don’t subscribe to them!). Instead, just start by thinking about one single aspect of your world where you’d like to create a change. Then ask yourself whether you have the tools, resources and support in place to help you make that change happen.
If you haven’t bought your copy of Untangled yet, it’s available from all good bookshops and wherever you usually buy your books online. I’m off to clear the decks and get everything in place for Christmas, which includes making sure I’ve got enough supplies of mince pies to get me through the festive season!
