Untangled turns one
When my book, “Untangled: a practical and inspirational guide to change we choose and change we don’t” launched, it was a whirlwind of activity with writing content, deliveries, packing pre-orders, news stories, social media lives and a big launch party. I remember the thrill of holding it fresh off the printing press, seeing it on a bookshop shelf for the first time, and also feeling overwhelmed by the reality of it all. For months (or more like years), I’d poured every ounce of energy into the words, edits, and details, ensuring it was the best it could be.
But how does that look a year on?
The Life of a Book After Launch
When people ask, “How’s it going?” I never quite know how to answer. A book is different from the work I usually do—coaching, team workshops, or building the Firefly Group. With those, there’s mostly always immediate feedback. But with a book, it’s out there, doing its thing in the wild. I don’t know where it’s landed or whose hands it’s in.
The truth is, I’ve stopped checking bookshops because the thought of it not being on the shelf terrifies me. Instead, I rely on the kindness of friends who snap photos if they spot it. And let me tell you, there’s nothing like seeing your book on someone’s bookshelf.
Every review, every message from a reader who says it helped them—that’s what makes it worthwhile. Whether it’s on Amazon, Goodreads, or in person, these moments remind me why I wrote Untangled.
Why Untangled Exists
The heart of this book is about making change more manageable, whether it’s chosen or thrust upon you. Life doesn’t come with a manual for navigating big transitions—career changes, relationship shifts, or starting fresh.
I wanted Untangled to be that guide. It’s written so you can dip in and out, taking just what you need. Whether carving out 15 minutes with your morning coffee or diving into a chapter during a quiet weekend, the book is there for you when you need it.
Where We Go From Here
So, what’s next? Today marks just the beginning. Like a child’s first birthday, there’s so much growing to do.
I know I need to make Untangled more visible—shout about it more and tell the world it’s here to help.
If Untangled is still sitting on your to-read pile, there’s no pressure; it’ll still be there when you’re ready to pick it up. It’s not the kind of book that demands to be rushed through; it’s one you read when the time feels right. It’s here for the moments that shake things up, whether that's a divorce, job change, redundancy, or even an exciting dream you’re finally ready to chase. It’s a guide for when life deals you a deck of cards you weren’t prepared for, for those times you’re yearning for something different, or just a way to untangle the everyday.
If someone you care about has crossed your mind while reading this—someone who might need a little help finding clarity or encouragement—tell them about it. Recommend the book to them, or if you’re feeling generous, pop a copy in their stocking for Christmas. You never know how much of a difference it could make.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Finally, to those who’ve supported me -mfrom my mentor Patty Aubrey whose endorsement is on the front of the book - to every single reader, thank you. Whether you’ve shared a kind word, posted a photo of the book in your hands, or simply tucked it on your shelf to read when you’re ready, you’ve made Untangled what it is today.
It’s been incredible seeing this little book find its way into lives around the world, from here in the UK to as far as South Africa and Singapore. I’ve even got a map in my office dotted with pins marking all the places Untangled has reached, and every single one feels like a personal connection with the person who bought it. Knowing that these pages are helping people and guiding them through those “what now?” moments means everything.
Here’s to more change, more learning, and more untangling ahead. Thank you.
